POSsible! Public Open Space Design Lab is a cross-sectoral design empowerment initiative that started in August 2021, to inquire and explore the innovation design opportunities to reinvent public open space (POS) in Hong Kong through Design Thinking. This initiative focuses on the design of future POS in high-density cities, emphasising sustainable development and improving residents’ quality of life. A set of tailor-made Design Thinking Toolkit and Design Guide has been developed in accordance with the Good Design-led Framework, which promotes a participatory process to guide sustainable POS development.
There are many components to a desirable POS, be it hardware, software, organisation processes (orgware), or even considerations beyond POS design, they ultimately stem from one of the 3 Aspects. They are derived based on the review and analysis of literature, global case studies and design guidelines performed at early stages of the project.
moreThe Good Design-led Values are the most essential shared values in POS projects. Arising from the 3 Aspects, the 10 Values establish the framework for the Design Guide and the Design Thinking Toolkit.
moreThere are 6 main types of personas related to POS. These personas are all needed to co-create a desirable POS. Understanding their motivations, roles and responsibilities, and superpowers will help you communicate and coordinate the design, construction, and maintenance of a POS.
moreWhile there are many different systems of POS classifications in Hong Kong, this project focuses on the 6 different POS types in which ArchSD is the works agent for implementation.
