The Diana Memorial Fountain is a unique monument in London, United Kingdom, dedicated to the late Princess Diana. This distinctive design combines aesthetics and symbolism to represent Diana’s life and spirit.
The fountain is a beloved spot for tourists to interact with the water. It features intricate grooves and channels that, combined with air jets, bring the water to life. These elements produce various effects such as the “Chadar Cascade”, “Swoosh”, “Stepped Cascade”, and “Rock and Roll”. At the bottom, there is a tranquil basin.
The Memorial’s design and construction team comprised landscape designers, computer modelling experts, consulting engineers, construction specialists, and skilled stonemasons. Each company or organisation contributed their distinctive expertise and capabilities to ensure the success of this significant national project.
This pioneering technical endeavour resulted in a collection of intricate computer files that accurately defined the exact shape and surface texture of each stone piece in the Memorial. Simultaneously, a critical area of the Memorial referred to as the “Swoosh”, was constructed as a mock-up by Imperial College, London. This replica was utilised in trials to refine the impressive water effects in this essential section. Ocmis, a water feature specialist company, created another mock-up representing the “bubbles” incorporated on the western side of the fountain.
