West Kowloon Cultural District stretches across the reclaimed land at the harbourfront. It is a cultural hub with indoor and outdoor art and cultural activities all year round. It also provides plenty of open space for recreation and relaxation.
The Art Park in the District offers an expansive lawn for visitors to enjoy picnics, relaxation, and fun. The space is also pet-friendly and serves as a location for various artistic and cultural happenings, including live music, performances, workshops, and handicraft booths.
The District periodically offers various public and educational activities. These include lectures that deliver a basic understanding to enhance appreciation and enjoyment of arts and cultural events, workshops that transform performance-related arts and abilities into engaging, practical experiences for all age groups, and community involvement initiatives that make art more accessible to the community.
You can find portable outdoor furnishings in the park, such as folding lounge chairs and blow-up couches.
The District Cooling System is estimated to reduce annual electricity expenses by 20%, cut annual greenhouse gas emissions by 2,000 tonnes, and save 700,000 cubic metres of freshwater. This environmentally-friendly solution not only reduces energy consumption but also contributes to a more sustainable future by lowering the carbon footprint and conserving water resources.
A total of 192,716 cubic metres of excavated fill materials were recycled and reused during the development of the District. This approach demonstrates a commitment to sustainable construction practices and resource conservation, reducing the environmental impact of the project and promoting a circular economy.
In anticipation of the park’s future growth, the district has established a tree nursery for experimental tree planting.
